Each year Residence Life employees 3 Resident Advisors (RA) and from 1-4 Community Assistants (CA) to help oversee the Residence Hall.

RAs and CAs help support residents through assisting with routine upkeep and monitoring of the Residence Hall, planning and facilitating activities and events, assisting with conflict mediation, answering general questions, enforcing college policies, and serving as a resource for students. RAs and CAs are there to promote an atmosphere that fosters positive living and learning.

It is the goal of Residence Life to foster a community vibe in the Residence Hall, and student staff are a vital part of that goal.

RAs and CAs are selected through an annual application process and employed by WVC.
Student staff must meet the following requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old
Must be eligible to work in the United States and possess a Social Security Card
Must be a current student, enrolled in a minimum of 10 credits
Must be in good standing academically (grades) and financially
Must be in good standing as a student (regarding conduct), and with Residence Life
Must live in the Residence Hall for the entire academic year (or remainder of year if starting mid-year)

Assist with general office tasks
Collect and deliver mail and packages
Help to maintain cleanliness and safety
Assist with an on-call rotation
Plan and facilitate activities and events

Our student staff play a very valuable role in the Residence Hall and for that reason they also have a lot of responsibility. Traits and values that Residence Life looks for in our staff include:

Time management
Self-directed (taking initiative)
Good social skills
Good communication skills

Additionally, we value

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with social media / technology skills
Artistic skills

We also consider the student staff role to be an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop deeper, stronger skills. Therefore, if you are not particularly strong in your understanding of the Office Suite or social media, etc, please don't let that stop you from seeking the opportunity.

Resident Advisors

Resident Advisors are the primary student leadership role in the Residence Hall. While there is 24-hour administrative support, RA's are the first line for resident assistance and policy enforcement after-hours, on weekends, and on holidays.

RAs are not permitted to hold any other job on or off campus due to the priority and commitment required for the RA position.

*Preference of 2nd year student and non-athlete due to job demands and challenges with athletic practices and games regarding availability and completion of duties. However, all applications will be considered.

RA Requirements:

Move in by August 15. 2025
Attend and participate in all training sessions
On-call evenings (5pm-8am), and all day on weekends, and holidays (shared responsibility with other staff)
*16 weekly office hours (duties assigned by the Residence Life Manager)
Resident mail collection and delivery (shared responsibility with other staff)
Mandatory attendance at weekly staff and activity meetings
Mandatory monthly / quarterly activities and event planned and facilitated.

*Amount of hours contingent on Board approval of fee increase.

RAs receive:

Early move-in (typically early to mid-August)
Free housing
- Private room, with private bathroom
Free parking pass (for residence hall lots only)
*$250 quarterly cafe meal card
$1,000 quarterly stipend (paid in 3 monthly payments - taxed)

*Dependent on cafe vendor

Community Assistants

Community Assistants serve in a support role for Residence Life, RAs and residents.

CAs are permitted to have an on, or off-campus job, however it may not interfere with the availability and responsibilities of the CA role.

CA Requirements:

Move in by August 15, 2025
Attend and participate in all training sessions
*5 weekly office hours (duties assigned by the Residence Life Manager)
Resident mail and package collection and delivery (shared responsibility with other staff)
Mandatory attendance at weekly staff and activity meetings
Plan and facilitate a quarterly event with a focus on sustainability

*Hours dependent on Board approval of fee increase

CA receive:

Early move-in (typically early to mid-August)
*$1,000 quarterly discount of housing fees

*Amount contingent on Board approval of fee increase
